A website that explores the intricacies of
female competitive behaviour in organisations.
Thank you for visiting Bitch In The CityTM, a website that explores the intricacies of female competitive behaviour in organisations.
The sad truth is that women aren’t always the supportive, encouraging sisterhood that we would like to believe we are, particularly when we are competing for something. There’s a lot of academic research which bears this out. Apparently, when we’re competing within male cultures and structures our inner Bitch sneaks out of her cage.
Take the example of women who have career success. Often, when a woman gets a promotion, her female colleagues question her capabilities and become her biggest critics. After a while of experiencing this, some women decide to pull the career ladder up into the attic and out of reach of the women following. It just feels safer that way … after all there’s enough to contend with…
Consequently, we can end up with a situation where women, already struggling against the tide in a world constructed by men, also have to struggle against other women. No wonder it seems hard.
My aim is to help women identify, understand and respond to destructive female competitive behaviour. By sharing these lessons I hope to help create many more of the supportive and positive female role models that the world and our daughters need.
Please join me to make the BITC an extinct species!
